Expected goals table: League 1, 23 Nov 2019

These alternative league tables are calculated using expected goals (as seen in my match timelines). There’s a full explanation in the first post here.

They may have gotten a hammering today but at least we’ve finally lost the negative bar from Bolton. Next to them, Southend are having an even more horrible season in the data than in real life, with none of their matches yet seeing them meaningfully out-create their opponents. Accrington, Portsmouth and Burton all look much better in the numbers than in the real table – all have a double-digit margin between their expected and actual points so I’d expect them to rise as the season goes on.
